‘Jobs’ Movie is coming out soon!

imagesThe movie/ biopic that depicts the life of Steve Jobs is coming out on August 16th! Ashton Kutcher plays Steve Jobs. This is the poster they just released, which I think is pretty reminiscent of Apple print ads actually. I’m quite excited to see how they plan to tell his story. I’ll post a movie review as soon as I watch it as well. I’m so in awe of how he changed our world, revolutionizing the music industry and the starting the smartphone wars, and really being the inventor of “cool”.

PS: It’s annoying how Apple’s stock is now plummeting. I definitely didn’t sell mine off at the right time when it was over $700/share … I’m still holding on tight – Oh well, I guess I’m still a believer!

 “And just one more thing…..”

Summer’s not over yet! Beach Accessories

Xsories Beach bag with speakers! $29.99 . Can’t speak for the quality but I love the idea. Below is a Sporti waterproof phone cover I’m sure many will appreciate. You can operate a touchscreen phone through the cover and when you drop it in water, it floats! Now THAT is smart. $19.99 , probably cheaper on Amazon (https://cosmopolitech.com/quick-cosmo-tech-tips/)

High Tech Marriage Proposals

I once watched a show on the national geographic channel – Top 100 marriage proposals – which included underwater, midst sky dive, on the golf course, in prison, swimming with dolphins, movie theaters and the latest proposal I saw was the viral video circulating youtube – Isaac’s lip-dub proposal, where he has his whole family singing and dancing to “I think I want to marry you” . Sigh … I want that.

Anyway, that got me thinking, I wonder if people have ever used technology or gadgets to propose innovatively. Turns out they have!

1. Make me the “app”iest girl in the world

One guy in Australia put out an ad to web developers to create a custom iPhone app for him. It cost him a few grand – and the perfected app that he gave her, basically took her on a long scavenger hunt directing her to all the places they’d visited together, and post her progress on Facebook simultaneously. She had to take pictures at each location and the hunt ended at a catered dinner. After dinner, the app gave her some instructions on how to find her reward and voila – a ring.

2. Hack your way into my heart

A computer science student hacked into his girlfriends Nintendo game and proposed!

3. Love is a game

A gamer with a girlfriend that loved to play games on her phone built a game for her that after she reached a certain level, would read : “Jen, I love you with all my heart and nothing would make me happier than to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” Underneath, there was just one button: “YES.”

The only hitch was Jen’s initial inability to get past the 7th level of the game where the proposal was buried. Haha

4. This proposal expires …
This proposal happened all on Groupon! Wow – These pictures explain it all – Quite a cool idea! Make sure to pay attention to ” the fine print” section of the groupon!

Sound advice…

iBamboo Speaker: now I feel iZen

Do you love the look and feel of eco-friendly, natural products? I do. Makes me feel like I’m at a spa.

De-wire and de-clutter your desk and make room for this ibamboo speaker crafted by an Etsy seller out of a single piece of bamboo. It’s made for the iphone 4/4S and you just slot your phone into it, and the music fills the room naturally as the natural resonance of the bamboo amplies the sound. This even makes for a great gift.

Each one is unique and is a 100% eco-friendly and uses no electricity and no wires! What a great idea!

3 Favorite Apps on my phone right now

Cards App

The Cards app from Apple allows you to custom design cards with text and photos from your phone and they’ll mail it (actually post it not email), in a chic addressed envelope, to ANYWHERE in the world!

They have a bunch of pre-designed templates you can choose from and you design the inside and outside of the card, adding in your own photos and messages. This entire process could take as little as a minute to design and address your card.

It really couldn’t get easier. I love the utility – I love the price – I love how easy this is to use.

The app itself is free to download, and once you design your card it costs $2.99 to post anywhere in the U.S. and $4.99 internationally.

This app by GreatCall gives you access to a live registered nurse 24/7, and a medical encyclopedia, and a symptom checker! Basically its great for hypochondriacs like myself.

The app’s key feature is the interactive symptom checker tool that helps to identify symptoms, possible causes and when to seek medical help and/ or if you can treat yourself and how. If you need additional help, you can tap and get direct access to a registered nurse. Genius!

They’re giving away a free 30 day trial right now and then the price is $3.99 per month. I haven’t yet gotten past my free trial so don’t know if they have any hidden costs, but I’m liking this idea so far.

PS: According to the app, I have a possible pollen allergy.

Best App ever! Basically it gives you access to hundreds of FREE movies and TV shows on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch… whatever. You don’t need to sign up, or pay a dime. It works on 3G and Wifi and yes, these are FULL length movies and TV shows and they keep adding new content – they claim to add 20 new movies and TV shows monthly!!

Crackle is a division of Sony Entertainment, so this isn’t shady illegal content – it’s all legit, great quality stuff. I love putting on an episode of Seinfeld as I wait my turn at the doctor’s office or in line to get my chipotle – time goes by so much quicker! Its a great entertainment app – my phone wouldn’t be the same without it.

Price: Free. No additional costs for content.

Apple TV or Roku ?

Online video streaming is officially mainstream !!

For so many years, I hadn’t a clue that I could stream those TV shows i missed and music and Hulu and YouTube straight to my TV! I can now watch Netflix and be on my computer all at once.

So what are the best devices out there? Apple TV ($99) and Roku LT ($50). Which should you buy? Well, depends..

Roku LT
The Roku has an amazing lineup of content, including Netflix, Amazon Instant, Hulu Plus, Pandora, HBO Go, Crackle, Picasa, Flicker and more. You can see a full list on Roku’s site, and the company keeps adding more sources. The list is long and impressive and you get SO much free content – so many free movies and TV shows to pass the time! YouTube however is missing but is available on Apple TV.

No extra monthly bills.

It’s super simple to use, and you can customize your channels layout.
Roku also offers several pricier models which you can read about on their website.

In short it’s a great product at great value.

Apple TV

This one has fewer services than roku and is more expensive. It does stream YouTube though. There’s a lot of content on here that if you’re willing to pay for, is amazing.

What’s key to this is the INTEGRATION with other apple products. My iphone or iPad (maybe ipod touch too.. My ipod is the original ugly fat version:( and now sits on my bookshelf unused ) can double as a remote for the Apple TV which is amazing and pretty cool!

You can purchase shows on iTunes and watch it on TV and seamlessly pick up where you left off on your iPad or computer.
You can also play your music on here. Everything syncs up with your other apple products – like an ecosystem!

I have an apple TV and find that I ONLY use it for Netflix and YouTube streaming. In retrospect I wish I’d gotten the ROKU.

Winner: ROKU
Why? More content, just as easy to use, lower price
